Auspicious timing
Muhurta is the Vedic science of choosing the right moment to begin an important activity. Just as a seed planted in good soil at the right season grows well, an action started in an auspicious Muhurta tends to succeed.
What makes a good Muhurta?
Choghadiya — The 1.5-hour time slot. Amrit and Labh are the most auspicious; Rog and Kaal should be avoided.
Tithi — The lunar day. Avoid Rikta Tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) for new beginnings. Ekadashi and Purnima are excellent.
Nakshatra — The Moon's star affects the quality of the day. Pushya, Rohini, Hasta and Uttara nakshatras are universally auspicious.
Lagna — The rising sign at the time of starting. A strong Lagna lord in a kendra makes the Muhurta powerful.
