What Are Biorhythms?
Biorhythm theory proposes that our physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities follow natural sinusoidal cycles from birth. Developed in the early 20th century by Wilhelm Fliess, it gained popularity as a self-awareness tool.
Physical Cycle (23 days)
Governs physical strength, coordination, endurance, stamina, and vitality. During the positive phase, athletic performance peaks. The negative phase calls for rest and recovery.
Emotional Cycle (28 days)
Controls mood, creativity, sensitivity, and intuition. High phase: positive outlook, great for relationships and artistic work. Low phase: emotional sensitivity — practice self-care.
Intellectual Cycle (33 days)
Reflects analytical thinking, memory, alertness, and logical reasoning. High phase: ideal for studying, decisions, and complex problems. Low phase: avoid critical decisions if possible.
Critical Days
The day a cycle crosses zero (from + to − or vice versa) is called a "critical day." You may feel unstable or unpredictable in that domain. When multiple cycles cross zero simultaneously, extra caution is advised.
Vedic Connection
Ayurveda recognises similar natural rhythms — the 28-day lunar cycle mirrors the emotional biorhythm. Ritucharya (seasonal routine) and Dinacharya (daily routine) are Vedic practices built around aligning with natural cycles.
